Research has demonstrated that for low-energy houses, such as those mandated by law from 2016, 70% of the space heating needs can be met cost effectively with solar energy in Ireland.

The theory, practical implementation, financial viability, monitioring and life-cycle carbon analysis of Solar Energy applied to low energy dwellings is the area in which Energy Expertise operates.

The principle of Energy Expertise, Dr. Shane Colclough has been a chartered engineer since 1994 and received an MBA from the Smurfit Business School in 1998. He also holds the distinction of holding the only Ph.D. to focus on the application of the low energy Passivhaus standard to Ireland, and is the Chairman of the  Passive House Association of Ireland.
